Embellishment question

I am making little quilts and I've offered to make some trees for friends.  I just made two with the same background, but one tree has several different colors and the other is just white.  The white tree feels like it's lacking something to me, but I can't tell if adding the buttons helps or not, so I come to you.

Lots of tree pictures behind cut.  The last tree is partly what inspired me to offer to make them for friends, so I'm not sure if everyone is expecting buttons.  The other colorful tree is going to someone who is going to put her buttons on herself.
